Tune in to NURTURE, our upcoming series of talks on the future of Asia’s agrifood system

August 27, 2020

GROW, the agrifoodtech impact accelerator powered by AgFunder, is launching the NURTURE Series – a program of TED-style virtual talks aimed at inspiring entrepreneurs to help shape a more resilient and sustainable food system.

With a focus on Asia Pacific, NURTURE will delve deep into some of the biggest questions facing the region’s agrifood stakeholders: What does the road towards regional food security look like? What technologies and other drivers of change will get us there? And what mindsets and skills do we need to achieve food security – and meet the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) along the way?

Four Asia-Pacific agrifood thought leaders will present over the coming weeks to share their insights on these questions and more:

  • Taking place next Wednesday, September 2, at 2:30 pm Singapore/China time, the first talk of the series will be delivered by Armen Harutyunyan, senior advisor at UN Development Program’s Global Center for Technology, Innovation, and Sustainable Development. He will explore different perspectives on Asia’s journey towards food security, and consider how technologies in digital farming, supply chain management, and alternative proteins are poised to help us achieve global food security. (You can sign up for Harutyunyan’s talk here.)
  • The following talk comes from Adam Lyle, co-founder and executive chairman at Padang & Co. He’ll make the case that tech innovation in the agrifood sector is not only key to achieving SDG 2 (‘zero hunger’), but is also inextricably connected to success in the other 16 SDGs. According to him, the secret sauce is a new way of thinking. (Wednesday, September 9, 2:30pm SGT – sign up here.)
  • Our third talk will be delivered by Juliana Proserpio, co-founder and chief design officer at Echos. She’ll share how we can go about designing desirable food futures, by engaging all stakeholders in the agrifood ecosystem — including consumers — to be co-creators and influencers of change. (Wednesday, September 16, 2:30pm SGT – sign up here.)
  • The fourth and final talk of the first NURTURE Series comes from Chintan Raveshia, cities planning and design lead at Arup. He envisions what urban food production can look like in the near future, and shares the frameworks Arup has developed in its role as a ‘smart city’ planner in major metropolises like Singapore. (Wednesday, September 23, 2:30pm SGT – sign up here.)

GROW and AgFunder have developed the NURTURE Series because we believe that sustainability-driven impact in food and agriculture requires multidisciplinary thinking and game-changing technological innovation.

In line with this, AgFunder recently launched the GROW Impact Fund – our new fund focused entirely on technologies that will help deliver meaningful environmental and social impact across the food system.

All four NURTURE talks will be broadcast live online, and are open to the public. Each talk will be followed by a moderated Q&A.

You can sign up for all the talks in the NURTURE Series here. To keep up to date with GROW events and programming, join the GROW Agrifoodtech community here.
