Observant, the Australian manufacturer of in-field hardware and cloud-based applications for precision farm water management, has been acquired by Jain Irrigations, the global irrigations business. Observant was founded in 2003 by Simon Holmes à Court and Matthew Pryor, early pioneers in agtech. It has more than 5,000 connected devices in the field across Australia and the US. Further details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Four Season Farm, a hydroponic greenhouse company, has raised $3 million in financing from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development. The funding will go towards buying machinery and equipment for an initial 10-acre facility to grow tomatoes. Ultimately the plan is to expand to 40 acres.
