Brief: Brown steps down as Impossible Foods CEO, replaced by Chobani’s McGuinness

March 17, 2022

  • Impossible Foods founder Patrick Brown will step down from his role as CEO at the company next month, according to a post he published on the company’s blog.
  • Peter McGuinness, who was previously president and chief operating officer at US dairy brand Chobani, will become Impossible’s new CEO.
  • Brown will stay at Impossible in the role of ‘chief visionary officer,’ “leading research and technology innovation, strategic initiatives, public advocacy and, most importantly, our mission,” he wrote.

Why it matters:

Brown, a biochemistry professor at Stanford University, founded Impossible Foods in 2011 with the aim of ending animal agriculture, which he has often described as the world’s most destructive industry.

“As Impossible’s business has grown in size, scale and complexity, the demands of that business have increasingly encroached on the time I have available to lead strategic initiatives; to communicate our mission to the public and policy-makers; and most importantly, to guide the research and technology innovation that continues to power our long-term success,” he said.
