GreenLight Biosciences is seeking an exceptional, highly motivated scientist to apply industry leading RNA technology to Crop Protection. The Discovery Biology Insecticides Scientist will be responsible for driving insecticides bioassay screening, product-enabling innovation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct in vitro and in vivo experiments to characterize compounds in terms of pesticidal efficacy and pest spectrum
  • Record and report activity of molecules as they are advanced through the discovery screening pipeline
  • Develop and optimize in vitro and in vivo assays to evaluate activity of novel RNA-based crop protection molecules for a variety of arthropod pests
  • Drive product-enabling innovation in RNAi bioactivity testing, lab to field translation, and efficiency and technology improvements
  • Communicate cross-functionally to align strategy for insecticide discovery screening and insectary production to meet GLB and project milestones
  • Analyze bioassay data using statistical analysis software and make data-driven recommendations to stakeholders
  • Coordinate weekly laboratory resources to enable and maintain an efficient screening process
  • Manage and mentor research associates to be significant contributors to science and GreenLight Biosciences
  • Ensure compliance with requirements for plant and arthropod handling and disposal as well as safety protocols

Requirements: 

PhD or Masters degree in Entomology, Agronomy, Animal Sciences, Biological Sciences, or related fields with a minimum of 5 years diversified insect assay experience in an industrial agrochemical crop protection setting.

  • Evidence of a personal track record of product-enabling innovation, impactful scientific knowledge, and accomplishments in the areas of insecticide discovery research
  • Demonstrated aptitude in in vitro and in vivo assay development and trouble-shooting
  • Experience with developing and implementing high throughput laboratory assays for insect crop pests
  • Ability to use statistics for data analysis
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, planning and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and detailed orientation with a desire to excel in a lab-based setting
  • Knowledge of agronomic and horticultural crops and related plant protection practices and insecticidal modes of action

Preferred, not required:

  • Experience rearing arthropods and/or managing an industrial insectary
  • Working knowledge of molecular insect biology
  • Experience working with biological insecticides
  • Experience with multispectral analysis for assessing plant damage
  • Knowledge of crop protection industry trends
