Freight Farms, the startup growing lettuce inside shipping containers, has raised $5.7 million in an $8 million round, according to a SEC filing. Since the startup raised $3.7 million in Series A funding in 2014, this could be its Series B round; Freight Farms declined to comment. Existing investors include West Coast and East Coast firms Spark Capital, LaunchCapital, Morningside Group and Right Side Capital Management.
AgShift, an ag data startup helping farms automate their compliance reporting, has closed a pre-seed round after being accepted onto the Thrive Accelerator in Salinas. The startup aims to collect and analyze data further along the supply chain to perform other tasks such as produce assessment and asset tracking.
Ninjacart, an Indian online B2B produce marketplace, has raised Rs370 million ($5.7 million) from new investors include Mistletoe, which is headed by the youngest brother of SoftBank’s CEO, and NRJN Family Trust. Existing investors Accel Partners, Qualcomm Ventures and M&S Partners also participated in the funding round. Aggrigator, a B2B farm-to-shelf marketplace based in Salinas, California, has raised over $3.3 million in seed funding from Elevate Innovation Partners.
Full Harvest, an online platform selling food seconds to businesses, has closed a $2 million seed round led by Wireframe Ventures. BBG Ventures, Early Impact Ventures, Impact Engine, early stage agtech VC Radicle, and a collection of angel investors including Astia and Joanne Wilson also joined the round. Agrisoma Biosciences, a Quebec-based startup developing and selling Carinata seed for biofuel and animal feed, has raised $15.4 million in Series B funding. New investor Groupe Lune Rouge, a Canadian investment firm based in Montreal, co-led the round with existing investors clean tech investor Cycle Capital Management and BDC Venture Capital. Skyline Vet Pharma, a companion animal health product development startup, has raised $5 million in Series A funding led by AgTech Accelerator, the venture development organization. AgTech Accelerator’s syndicate of partners also invested. This is the second investment for AgTech Accelerator, which made its first last month.
