Documentary “Farmland” Coming this Spring

March 25, 2014

If you want to learn more about farming and feel good while doing it, keep an eye out for Farmland, a documentary to be nationally released this Spring.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker, James Moll, has visited several American family farms, documenting the evolving practices of farms that have been passed down through generations.

“In Farmland, audiences will hear thoughts and opinions about agriculture, but not from me, and not from a narrator,” Moll said. “They’re from the mouths of the farmers and ranchers themselves.”

Most Americans are 5 generations away from farming, which brings many harmful misconceptions about what it means to be a farmer or rancher. Calling the business a high-risk but high-reward occupation, the documentary dives into the lives of six farmers and ranchers across the US in order to give the viewer a larger appreciation for the work the American farmer does.

“Lots of people talk about how hard they work,” said one farmer in the trailer. “But until you know a farmer, you don’t know what hard work is.”

The film is going to be privately screened on April 17th at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, and will be nationally released on May 1st.
