Agtech Funding (& Exit) Sheet: Observant Acquired by Jain, Winnow Solutions Raises Convertible, more

Observant, the Australian manufacturer of in-field hardware and cloud-based applications for precision farm water management, has been acquired by Jain Irrigations, the global irrigations business. Observant was founded in 2003 by Simon Holmes à Court and Matthew Pryor, early pioneers in agtech. It has more than 5,000 connected devices in the field across Australia and the US. Further details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Agrivida, the animal feed additive startup, raised strategic funding from venture development organization TechAccel and the Iowa Corn Growers Association‘s equity investment fund Iowa Corn Opportunities in an extension to its Series E round. Find out more about the deal here.

TerrAvion, the aerial imagery provider for farmers, raised $10 million in Series A funding, led by Merus Ventures, a software-focused VC, and existing investors Promus VenturesInitialized Capital and 10X Group. Find out more about the technology and the round here.

Winnow Solutions, a UK food waste meter technology for restaurants, has closed a convertible debt round with the venture arm of New York-based analytics and advertising group R/GA, according to CrunchBase. They raised a $3.3 million Series A last year.

Four Season Farm, a hydroponic greenhouse company, has raised $3 million in financing from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development. The funding will go towards buying machinery and equipment for an initial 10-acre facility to grow tomatoes. Ultimately the plan is to expand to 40 acres.

arc-net, a Northern Ireland-based supply chain security and raised £2 million ($2.5 million) in seed stage funding from Dr. Richard Steeves, the founder of Synergy Health, and former UK Entrepreneur of the Year.  The funding will be used to accelerate the growth of the blockchain technology in new markets. bloomon, an Amsterdam-based online flower delivery service, raised $23m in Series B funding from Belgium expansion capital investment firm Fortino Capital, Dutch VC INKEF Capital, France-based European VC Partech Ventures, and angel investors.
