Agtech Funding Sheet: Latin American Startups, Ag Marketplaces, Bio-Inputs, Sensors, more

Arvegenix, an ag biotech company creating genetically improved field pennycress for oil, raised a $2.4 million venture round with a long list of investors, including some agtech-focused funders like agtech accelerator The Yield Lab, Cultivian Capital, and Monsanto Growth Ventures. Other investors included: Michael Roth, St. Louis County Port Authority, Prelude Ventures, Prolog Ventures, Missouri Technology Corporation, BioGenerator, and St. Louis Arch Angels.

Picnic, an Amsterdam-based online supermarket, closed a $108.51 million Series B led by SHV Holdings’ private equity arm NPM Capital with participation from Hoyberg, Finci, and Dutch private equity firm De Hoge Dennen Capital.

Hexafly, an Irish insect protein biotech company, completed a $1.07 venture round with an undisclosed group of investors, according to CrunchBase.

Kilimo, an Argentian startup providing irrigation management for extensive agriculture, received new investment from NXTP Labs, the Latin American accelerator program.

Aegro, a Brazilian farm management software company, raised $1 million in seed funding from leading agtech VC in the country, SP Ventures.

Licious, an Indian on-demand market for meat and fish, raised $10 million in a Series B round led by early-stage India-based venture fund 3one4 Capital and multi-stage and multi-sector investors Mayfield Capital. Other investors in the round included Seoul-based Neoplux and Sistema Asia Fund, which is a venture capital fund of Russian conglomerate Sistema.

New Leaf, a company that commercializes bacteria for sustainable agriculture products, completed a $3.55 million debt financing round, according to CrunchBase.

FarmLead, an online grain marketplace, closed a $6.5 million Series A with Serra Ventures, MaRS Investment Accelerator Fund, Avrio Capital, Monsanto Growth Ventures (MGV). Read more about the new funding and FarmLead’s model in our recent interview with company CEO Brennan Turner.

Dig Inn, a healthy restaurant chain, raised a $30 million Series D with Los Angeles-private firm Monogram Capital Partners, Boston-based Avalt, who led the round, and solo investor Bill Allen.

Weather Analytics, a weather data delivery startup, raised a $17 million Series B with insurance holding company W. R. Berkley Corporation and specialty insurance group Tokio Marine.

Cool Planet, a biofuel-turned-biological ag products company, raised a $19.3 million venture round with North Bridge Venture Partners, Agustín Coppel. Arable, the ag sensor and analytics startups, completed a $4.25 million Series A co-lead by Middleland Capital and S2G Ventures. Cantos Ventures, Chasefield Capital, and Spark Labs also participated in the round. Benson Hill Biosystems, a plant biology, big data analytics, and cloud computing company, raised a $25 million Series B with a long list of investors. The round was led by new agtech fund Lewis & Clark Ventures, and existing investor Prelude Ventures. Snap Kitchen, a web-enabled healthy meal service available for pick-up or meal planning, completed a $2 million venture round with and an undisclosed group of investors.

Inocucor Technologies, a sustainable biologics company innovating for the phyto-microbiome industry, raised a $38.8 million Series B led by TPG Alternative and Renewable Technologies with participation from Quebec-based Cycle Capital Management, Canadian multi-sector investors Desjardins Innovatech, and agtech-focused Pennsylvania-based funders Closed Loop Capital.
