May 7, 2015

NatureBox, the online delivery service that drops healthy snacks at your door on a monthly basis, reported $30 million in Series C investmentGlobal Founders Capital led Tuesday’s investment along with returning supporters SoftBank Capital, General Catalyst Partners and Canaan Partners, among others. Previous raises included a $2 million Seed in December of 2012, an $8.5 million Series A round in July of 2013, and a $18 million Series B in April of last year.

NatureBox was founded in 2011 by Gautam Gupta and Ken Chen. The company’s mission is to provide a customizable shopping experience that caters to the whims and dietary preferences of each consumer. For a low monthly price ($19.99), customers receive five snack bags chosen from over one hundred snack varieties made by the company. According to the company’s website, their snack products vary from vegan to freedom from soy, lactose, gluten and GMO’s, depending on one’s preference and allergies.

NatureBox offers a one month free trial to boot. The service is available in all 50 states and the company says it’s subscriber base has been growing exponentially.

“We’ve grown really quickly,” Gautam Gupta told CBSnews.com last August. “In the short term, we’re trying to continue to improve customers service and grow the direct-to-consumer business. We’re also building our engineering and science teams. We’ve started to use the data that we have to enhance the experience.”

The company is also dedicated to feeding the hungry and has partnered with WhyHunger to help feed needy Americans. Founded in 1975 by the late Harry Chapin and current Executive Director Bill Ayres, WhyHunger’s mission is to end hunger and poverty by connecting people to nutritious, affordable food and by supporting grassroots solutions that inspire self-reliance and community empowerment, according to their website.

The company plans to use the funds to expand it’s product line and raise brand awareness, as well as to reach out for new partnerships with companies that can help expand it’s reach to subscribers.
