The Good Food Institute (GFI) is on the forefront of the movement to use food technology and markets to solve some of the world’s biggest problems, from climate change and global hunger to antibiotic efficacy and the exploitation of billions of animals annually. The Good Food Institute’s Director of Communications has a critical role in ensuring that a good food future develops as quickly and efficiently as possible. At GFI, you will lead the conversation on the growing plant-based and “clean meat” industries to further the work of the world’s top entrepreneurs and scientists who are focused on developing healthy, humane, and sustainable alternatives to factory-farmed products.
How You Will Make a Difference
As GFI’s Director of Communications, you will manage our team of media specialists, develop and guide our media strategy, and ensure that GFI is the primary source of information and communications support for the plant-based foods and clean meat industries. You will oversee all communications, including public relations messaging, content planning for GFI’s website and blog, media and marketing strategy for mission-aligned startups, and GFI’s social media strategy. You will partner closely with GFI’s Development Department to help build our constituencies, and craft compelling cases for philanthropic support. You will ensure the food revolution garners vibrant, inspiring coverage by:
- Managing all aspects of the Communications Department, including supervising staff, overseeing department budgeting and spending, and providing visionary leadership.
- Developing, implementing, and evaluating communications plans to engage our audience, cultivate new supporters and followers, and support mission-aligned initiatives and startup companies.
- Creating and rolling out media initiatives to inspire students, entrepreneurs, and scientists to use their skills to address challenges within our global food system.
- Partnering with and provide expert guidance to all GFI departments to ensure all outward-facing messaging is in alignment with GFI’s vision and agency voice.
Above all, you will be responsible for directing the creative vision of the organization, generating innovative ideas, and harnessing the potential of new and emerging communication channels to bring our work to the largest possible audience.

Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking smart, thoughtful, and creative self-starters who want to push back against climate change, transform industrial animal agriculture, and develop healthy and humane foods that are accessible to everyone.
The Director of Communications must be extremely creative and have a strong work ethic and ability to see projects through to completion, exceptional writing abilities, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, experience leading teams, and enthusiasm about GFI’s mission. You will enjoy a high level of autonomy in this role and must be self-motivated, work well both independently and in concert with a larger group, and be comfortable working with a rapidly evolving and growing team.
We are considering candidates with a degree in communications, public relations, or a related field, and/or experience in either corporate or nonprofit communications.
