Creating a healthy, humane, and sustainable food supply
The Good Food Institute (GFI) is on the forefront of the movement to use food technology and markets to solve some of the world’s biggest problems, from climate change and global hunger to antibiotic efficacy and the exploitation of billions of animals annually. The Good Food Institute’s Academic Research Advisor will have a far reaching role in ensuring that a good food future materializes as quickly and efficiently as possible. At GFI, you will work with the world’s top universities and students who are focused on discovering innovative solutions to develop the best possible alternatives to conventional animal agriculture and conducting research to address fundamental gaps in the science and technology of plant-based and clean meat, dairy, and eggs.
How You Will Make a Difference
As GFI’s Academic Research Advisor, you will supervise and mentor our talented team of enthusiastic science interns and fellows, serve as GFI’s formal co-advisor for students pursuing GFI-articulated research projects in university settings, and coordinate student entrepreneurship and innovation competitions like the UC Berkeley Sutardja Center Challenge Labs and Colliders in collaboration with GFI’s Science & Technology team. You will do this by:
- Connecting students looking for research opportunities in the plant-based and clean food fields with faculty and university labs, as well as with external funding opportunities to pursue their research.
- Directing the focus of student research projects in plant-based or clean food labs to address the most pressing and important questions in the field, as identified by GFI’s scientists.
- Developing and implementing science and technology courses and labs related to plant-based and clean food at top universities across the country.
- Supporting the development of academic and student initiatives (such as the Cellular Agriculture Academic Society, CAAS) focused on inspiring the next generation of professionals dedicated to pursuing and promoting plant-based or clean foods.
