Farmers Cut is looking for a Research Associate who will support all phases of vegetable and herb production and applied plant science research in our modern, high-technology Dryponics farm in Hamburg.

The Research Associate, Vegetable Breeding will play important role in our screening and variety breeding program. They will assist in all aspects of vegetable and herb research and development including: the design, implementation, and analysis of experiments in an indoor hydroponic growing environment. Areas of research include: improvement of yield, nutrition, quality, tip burn and bolting resistance of leafy greens, herbs, tomatoes, and cucumbers.

What you’ll do:

Coordination of variety screening and breeding trials including trial setup, planting, evaluation, data collection
Responsible for providing project status updates related to  all research activities to appropriate individuals
Monitoring of crop development and health
Provide support for germplasm evaluation and vegetable breeding program
Assist in propagation and transplanting of varietals
Understanding of processes in genetic selection, crosses, and generation evaluation
Track and report plant health from propagation to harvest

What we’re looking for:

A Bachelor’s Degree in horticulture, plant breeding and genetics, or minimum 3 years of experience in an applied vegetable breeding program
Knowledge and experience in greenhouse /indoor crop production
Working knowledge of new technologies/methodologies in plant breeding
Experience and a strong technical understanding of design, implementation, management, data collection and analysis of growth chamber experiments.
Strong documentation and written reporting skills
Experience with data management and data analysis
Strong interpersonal skills, team player, self-motivation to complete projects in a timely fashion.
Self-starting, ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Interested in a dynamic work environment and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Accept personal responsibility for task fulfillment and job performance.
