Food Waste Startup Winnow Closes $3.3m in Series A

UK-based startup Winnow has raised $3.3 million in a Series A funding from MustardSeed, a UK impact investor and incubator, D-Ax, a Swiss investment company in the digital space, and a group of existing investors. The company’s smart meter technology measures the amount of food waste that a restaurant produces. FarmLink Raises $24.6m in Series C Round

Kansas-city based FarmLink, which started as a business that leases combines, has raised $24.6 million from a group of new and existing investors. The company will use the funding to foster new growth. FarmLink offers farmers benchmarked yield data with its original TrueHarvest product, calculating revenue from each field and identifying improvement opportunities which are displayed on a dashboard. Adaptive Symbiotic Technologies Raises $3.4m Series A

Agriculture biotech company Adaptive Symbiotic Technologies (AST) closed a $3.4 million Series A after getting investment from Australian agricultural producer Twynam Agricultural Group, and a group of impact investors. Established in 2008, the company has created a microbial seed treatment, BioEnsure, that improves plants’ ability to deal with various environmental stresses, like drought and extreme heat. Light Aircraft Manufacturer Quest Aircraft Company Raises $10m

Japanese trading house Mitsui & Co is set to acquire a 12.5 percent share of American light aircraft maker Quest Aircraft Company for a price tag of $10 million. The light aircraft are primarily used in agriculture and mining. Mitsui will take advantage of its global networks to boost the expansion of sales channels for Quest’s aircraft.

Singaporean Food E-commerce Company Grain Closes $1.7m Series A

Singapore food tech startup Grain has closed $1.7 million to construct its full-stack food delivery service in Southeast Asia. A number of investors participated in the round, including round leader early stage tech investment firm NSI Ventures, Thai Express founder Ivan Lee,  global seed fund and startup accelerator 500 Startups, and emerging market investor Digital Media Partners. Grain will have to compete with Southeast Asia’s largest food delivery services, FoodPanda, which serves as a broker between users and local restaurants. Grain, on the other hand, handles each stage of the transaction, including food prep and delivery. The company also focuses on delivering wholesome, good quality meals.

Data Company Praedictus Climate Solutions raises $125k

The Innovation Fund at the University of Chicago has awarded $125,000 to Praedictus Climate Solutions, which has developed software tools to provide real-time crop projections. The cash will be used to help the company validate its technology with new crop varieties and in different regions. The finalists were required to pitch their ideas to the fund’s advisory committee at the Chicago Innovation Exchange. The investment brings the Innovation Fund’s total funding dollars to over $3.6 million across 38 ventures that offer societal and commercial impact potential.
